As Europe continues to edge towards a diesel-powered future, carmakers continue to make huge strides forward in diesel technology and manufacturing. Scratch away the surface, though, and one will find the true driving force behind the improvements is ever-increasing sales. "Diesel engines used to have a sad name," says Derrick Kuzak, vice president of product development at Ford. "There was concerns with noise, smell and lack of performance.
