For the design development of the curvaceous Maserati Quattroporte exterior, Pininfarina's designers and body engineers relied heavily on the ICEM Surf surface modelling, analysis and visualisation software suite to reflect the stylists' wishes accurately and at the same time to achieve the degree of surface and manufacturing quality that such a car demanded. "We have been using ICEM Surf for the past three or four years and find it an invaluable tool for developing surface shapes that are visually correct and appealing and that also satisfy manufacturing requirements," says Eng Riccardo Majocchi, Pininfarina technical manager. "On the Quattroporte project", he says, "ICEM Surf's real-time surface and curvature analysis tools were very important in enabling us to arrive at the required Class A surfaces quickly and easily."
