US firm looks to overturn lead exemption from ELV

The European Union's End of Life Vehicle directive aimed to eliminate the use of potentially harmful materials and components in vehicles put on the market after 1 July 2003. But the lead in the solder used in electronic circuit boards and other electrical applications was exempted from the initial directive, because it was believed at the time that there was no technically feasible and affordable alternative for attaching electronic devices to glass.
