Honda and Mini in double boost for UK carmaking

Honda Motor Europe is to produce 250,000 vehicles a year from next year at its Swindon manufacturing centre in the UK, up from 190,000 in 2006 and creating 700 new jobs. And in a double boost for UK carmaking, BMW announced it would increase production of the Mini from 200,000 to 240,000 a year with the introduction of the new model. Honda says there has been a 30 per cent upsurge in demand for its new five and three-door Civic models. That combined with the CR-V sports utility vehicle launched at Paris and due to be made from January, mean that the Swindon plant needs to run at full capacity from now on.
