Plastic Omnium has developed a 30 per cent cheaper bumper for emerging markets.rnRapid growth in new markets demands simpler, cheaper components. The firm is not just re-working its existing bumpers but is taking a two-step approach to designing parts instead.rn"First we take a design-to-cost approach, where styling and specifications arernconsiderations - this can lead to a 20 per cent reduction," said Thierry Micheron of Plastic Omnium. "A further re-design taking product manufacturability into account can save an additional 10 per cent."
