Ford goes in search of modern-day Model T

Ford has asked five universities to come up with plans for a 21st century Model T. Their brief is to create a vehicle that is simple, durable and lightweight, accommodating two people with a range of at least 200km - and that can sell for less than $7,000. The low price tag is in keeping with the Model T's status as the car that made motoring affordable for the masses. And, while companies such as Tata plan to build cheaper cars for India, Ford is looking for a vehicle to sell worldwide. Ford has given each university $75,000 to fund research. They have until September to submit their proposals, and the OEM will award $25,000 to the best two concepts.
