Ford on course to meet 'one-year car' target

Ford's plan to cut vehicle development times to 12 months by 2012 is on target. Ford expects its Global Product Development System (GPDS), which has digital engineering at its core, to cut engineering costs by 20 per cent.rnGPDS has been used already on the Mondeo and Jaguar XF programmes, saving up to 12 months and proving the approach is robust. The next big step is to eliminate physical prototypes completely.
