Toyota SUV takes Tesla's batteries

Toyota has developed an electric version of its RAV4 compact SUV using battery technology supplied by low-volume electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla. The electric RAV4, which has been in development since 2010, uses the same lithium-metal-oxide-based battery as the Tesla Roadster, and gives the RAV4 a maximum power output of 115kW. Engineers increased the vehicle's energy efficiency by improving its aerodynamics: the RAV4 EV has a lower drag coefficient of 0.30 compared to the base versions.
