Volkswagen combines downsizing and dual-clutches in compact-class hybrid

Volkswagen has developed a downsized gasoline parallel hybrid version of the Jetta compact sedan for the US. Fuel consumption will be cut by around a fifth compared to a basic combustion engine model. Hybrids are more popular in the US than in Europe because they are more widely available than diesels and often less expensive to buy. VW claims that the Jetta hybrid is the first in the world to use a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and that it is also the quickest in its segment.
