Going to a filling station is an experience as routine as it is expensive. The only thing going through my mind as fuel pours into the tank is that it always seems to cost more than it did the last time. But the idea that the fuel that I want to buy might not be available is inconceivable, We have the ubiquity of gasoline and diesel to thank for that, together with the phenomenal infrastructure that has developed over the last 100 years or so in order to sell these liquid hydrocarbons to us. It's different with compressed natural gas: there are only around 3,000 pumps across the whole of Europe - a tiny number. So if you drive one of the CNG-powered vehicles making up the 1% or so of Europe's fleet, I imagine that you plan your refuelling strategy a lot more carefully than most.
