Volvo broadens powertrain electrification across fleet

Volvo has outlined its strategy to increase powertrain electrification across its vehicle fleet. The OEM will introduce plug-in hybrid technology across its entire range. The firm will also develop a range of electrified smaller cars and build a fully electric car for sale by 2019. Volvo expects electrified vehicles to account for up to 10% of total car sales in the medium term. To meet this demand, the first element of its electrification strategy involves the introduction of plug-in hybrid versions of its 90 series and 60 series larger cars, based on the company's scaleable product architecture (SPA).
