The move towards greater autonomy is one that, barring the odd player at the premium end of the market, almost all OEMs are pursuing. And with its Mercedes-Benz F015 concept car, Daimler has provided a visible presentation of where the path towards a luxury autonomous vehicle could lead, and an indication of how it is going to arrive there. It will be the responsibility of individuals such as Sajjad Khan, and the team he works with, to ensure that the move happens smoothly and swiftly. "Today is the E-Class but if you look at how much the car can do, how many technologies it has and what added value the customer has in that car, then you can get an idea about how far the F015 could go in the future," he says. As head of connected cartelematics and user interaction for Daimler, Khan naturally takes a keen interest in the developments in more advanced driver-assistance systems.
