Modellierung des Abflusses aus hochalpinen Einzugsgebieten unter Verwendung von Satellitendaten

Methods for the application of satellite data for modelling and forecasting the runoff in alpine drainage basins were investigated and tested in the drainage basin Schlegeis, Zillertal, in the Austrian Alps during two runoff seasons. Digital snow maps, derived from synthetic aperture radar and optical sensors, are the basic hydrological input data for the runoff calculations. Model runs show good results for runoff simulation during spring and summer. The quality of the short-term forecasts of daily runoff is good during the snowmelt period, because the main model input data, snow distribution from satellite data and air temperature from numerical meteorological forecasts, are accurate.
