Well, Adobe has taken a good deal of criticism over the past couple of years since it announced that it would move to a subscription Creative Cloud model, which was a pay-as-you-go monthly stipend. As a person who is always most interested (and technically must be up to date on) in the most current versions of tools, I quickly did the maths. I found that it was not at all more expensive, in fact, it was a good deal cheaper than buying a brand new update to each Creative Suite standalone application. Apparently Adobe had done the maths as well. It also meant that users who were on older computers or who did not intend to upgrade their versions, kind of had to. Many printeries would avoid upgrading several of their workstations just because they were just single-role machines like retouching stations. As a result however of Adobe requiring a recurring licence, they had their most profitable year ever last year. Good for Adobe, for sure, but is it good for the industry?
