Assistant Editor Greg Byrne: Mick, are you able to provide us your current age, rank and designation? McGANN: I am 58 years of age. I resigned from the NSWPF in 1991. Are you able to give a short overview of your policing career? I joined the NSW Police Cadets on 9 July, 1973 and was sworn in on 7 February, 1975. I was stationed at 31 Division (Hurstville, Riverwood, Mortdale and Kingsgrove) and commenced plain clothes duties in mid-1978. Then I was posted to 21 Division, then to Revesby in 1979, then to Special Breaking Squad at CIB 1981. I was designated as a detective that year. With regionalisation of the CIB, which started in 1983, I transferred in November to the Regional Crime Squad Miranda Breaking Unit with five other detectives. We all came from the parent squad: the Special Breaking Squad at the CIB.
