Assistant Editor Greg Byrne: Greg, can you provide the APJ with an overview of your police service? McMAHON: Sure. I spent 12 and-a-half years in the NSW Police. I joined as a Junior Trainee in 1982, performed general duties at Bankstown, Highway Patrol car duties at the old North Sydney before becoming a solo cyclist at Bass Hill. In 1988, I transferred to the Gaming Squad for a while before being assigned to a special undercover role doing quite a bit of work with the National Crime Authority mixing with suspects who had eluded prosecution or had flown under the radar of the Moffitt Royal Commission (The Moffitt Royal Commission ran between 1973 and 1974 to investigate the extent and activities of organised crime).
