Australian style Sangiovese

The number of Australian winemakers growing Sangiovese is not huge; the Wine Industry Directory lists only 149 producers of the Italian variety compared with 1,405 for Shiraz. Among Australia's enthusiastic band of Sangiovese makers are Coriole Vineyards, De Bortoli, The Little Wine Company, Brown Brothers, Dromana and Mt Langi Ghiran. The Wine Industry Journal approached the winemakers behind these labels to submit reports on how they go about their viticulture, winemaking and marketing for Sangiovese. The Journal is grateful for their cooperation, especially considering they were busy making wine at the time of writing. We would also like to thank the various wineries who submitted Sangiovese samples for the tasting as part of this report.
