Amended EU-Australia Wine Agreement comes into force

This article provides further information to the column written by AWBC general manager - compliance and trade Steve Guy in the January/February 2010 issue of the Wine Industry Journal, titled 'Trade update: Australia's wine agreement with the European Community'.The amended Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Act 1980 came into effect on 1 September 2010, bringing into force the EU-Australia Agreement on Trade in Wine. The new agreement was signed in December 2008 and replaces the 1994 Wine Agreement that left a number of outstanding matters unresolved regarding phase-out dates for a list of geographical indications (GIs) and the protection of traditional expressions relating to wine.
