The Republic of Korea, known colloquially as South Korea, occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. Wedged between China and Japan, these two neighbouring countries have at times both colonised Korea, and throughout history have been a source of social, cultural and economic influence.rnYet, despite Korea's proximity to Asia's two 'super powers', the Korean people have developed a unique homogeneous culture of their own. This includes their own language, cuisine and manner of dress.
