This book (along with its first edition) is the only one that is dedicated solely to equivalence and noninferiority problems. While hypotheses tests are traditionally used to detect departure from a reference point, equivalence tests seek to establish that a possible departure from a reference point is not of practical importance. Equivalence problems first appeared in the statistical literature about 50 years ago, and have become very important in clinical pharmacology, medical research and traditional statistical inference problems.
