Atomic Energy Commission to Sponsor Roundtable Discussions on Nuclear Policy

At an extraordinary meeting on March 15, Japan's Atomic Energy Commission decided to establish the Roundtable Conference on Nuclear Policy. Members of the commission will form a panel and invite additional participants, drawn from all levels in a wide range of fields. Opponents of nuclear development will also be included, as will people in areas where nuclear facilities are located. The objective will be to formulate a national consensus on nuclear policy through direct talks among all parties. The discussions will be open to the public, and will be held not only in Tokyo but also in several other locations. The first was held in mid-April, with two or three to be held per month after that.
