WERC Holds First International Forum on Promotion of Proton Cancer Therapy

On November 10 and 11, the Wakasa Wan Energy Research Center (WERC) held the first International Forum on Promotion of Proton Cancer Therapy in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture. WERC is one of four facilities in Japan, and the only one situated on the coast with a proton accelerator that supports proton therapy for cancer treatment. The forum was supported by two local governments (Fukui Prefecture and Tsuruga City), two central government ministries (the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, or MEXT, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, or METI), two medical associations (of Fukui Prefecture and Tsuruga City), and three media organizations (the NHK Fukui Branch, the Fukui Newspaper Agency, and the Fukui Television Broadcasting Co.).
