Zirconium alloys can lose their plasticity as a result of hydrogen absorption [1,2]. At room temperature, almost all of the hydrogen is contained in zirconium hydrides ZrH_1,5[3]. When hydride molecules are formed, the concentration of free elec- trons in zirconium decreases.
