BLUE RIBBON COMMISSION ON AMERICA'S NUCLEAR FUTURE

The Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future (the Commission) was formed at the beginning of 2010 by the Secretary of the Department of Energy at the request of the President of the United Slates (after he stopped work on the Yucca Mountain repository) to make a comprehensive review of the policy concerning the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle and to make recommendations concerning a new strategy [ 1 ]. The Commission, which was co-directed by Rep. Lee Hamilton, now director of the Center for Congress at the University of Indiana, and Gen. B. Scowcroft, national security advisor to Presidents G. Ford and G. Bush, included 15 scientists and politicians, including Sen. P. Domenici, Ms. S. Eisenhower. Dr. Richard A. Meserve - past president of the NRC, and Professor Dr. Ernest Moniz of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
