In recent years, textile materials have been playing an increasingly significant role in the field of medical textiles. The many areas of intervention include healthcare, woundcare, sutures, orthopedic implants, vascular grafts, artificial ligaments & tendons, heart valves and even as artificial skins and extracorporeal devices. For instance, trauma- or surgery-related injuries are being repaired by fibers applying nerve regeneration techniques. Open veins and arteries are being supported and kept by textile-based stents.
