On the applicability of human cultural models to extraterrestrial intelligence civilizations

This paper examines the likelihood of certain social features appearing universally among extraterrestrial intelligence civilizations. It is suggested that certain features are extremely likely to occur since they are logical extensions of primary social needs. This may have some effect on attempts to approximate the L variable in the Drake equation.
