An experimental investigation was performed to explore the characteristics of sprays produced by the splash platelet injector in a spray test facility. A high-speed camera was used to measure the flow and spray characteristics. During the experiments, four cases with different lengths of trapezoidal orifice and expanding angle were analyzed. The experimental results showed that the mass flow rate and flow coefficient decrease when the length of the trapezoidal orifice and expanding angle increase. The influence of the length of the trapezoidal orifice on the spray morphology is significant. The spray region increases when the length of the trapezoidal orifice decreases. The spray images showed that no liquid film (liquid sheet) existed, but an obvious liquid band was formed on the impact surface, which increased the transverse thickness and was not conducive to the propellant atomization. Furthermore, an increase in injection pressure caused a direct increase in impinging angle and a decrease in impinging distance. Among the four injectors, the SP1 injector has a shorter impinging distance and a larger impinging angle. The results presented in this paper may provide valuable reference for future hot-firing tests.
