Senior General Than Shwe recently gave an interview to Micool Brooke to set the record straight following a bitter war of words with neighbouring Thailand and harsh criticism from the international community. In this revealing interview, the Senior General reveals how democracy without necessary foundations may precipitate trouble. This interview is based on the same theme as his speech to commemorate Myanmar's 56th Armed Forces Day anniversary on March 27 this year. Senior General Than Shwe became Prime Minister and Defence Minister, as well as Chairman of the State Law and Order Regional Council (SLORC) in April 1992. He is now the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), as well as Defence Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services of Myanmar.
