DSA 2002 will also see the participation of companies that offer electronic warfare and combat communications systems. A well-known name in defence electronics is Thales Defence. The company provides radar and electronic warfare systems to meet the intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance needs of military commanders. One of its products is the Searchwater 2000 AEW radar, which is currently in operations with the Royal Navy. The company is also the prime contractor for the Sea King AEW Mk7 programme, is extensively upgrading the aircraft's tactical roles to include intercept direction of fighters, maritime surface surveillance, over the horizon target reporting and surface search for submarines. The Searchwater 2000 Maritime Reconnaissance is the main sensor for the Nimrod MRA 4 which is due to provide a quantum leap in maritime reconnaissance for the UK MoD.
