Smaller and Mini UGVs: Enhanced Risk Protection in a Variety of Military and Security Applications

The use of Unmanned Ground Vehicles or UGVs is not new having been used as early as World War II. Over the years, military technology has evolved at a rapid pace and we have seen a large increase in the use of UGVs in many combat scenarios today. This has been especially so in the Gulf conflict and in Afghanistan where the widespread use of lEDs have created a need to minimise risks to combat personnel. The scope of operations however for UGVs covers a wide spectrum ranging from EOD roles, logistics support, transportation, surveillance and as a combat weapon. UGVs range from the mini robots to medium-sized and the larger heavy variants based on armoured platforms.
