摘要

After much sailing under the cloud of economic uncertainty, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is finally moving into smooth waters. Things are looking bright as the Malaysian government recently acquired four littoral mission ships (LMS) from China. Earlier, Malaysia is grappling with an ageing fleet of naval vessels and budget cuts and planners in the RMN and its leadership have said that the navy will be restructured to adapt to meet new changes and challenges including getting new assets. The RMN chief, Adm Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said that in keeping abreast with current development, it recently formulated the maritime defence strategy and a development plan to enhance its capabilities and said plan is now underway. One of the ways the RMN was trying to "do more with less," was through the 15-to-5 Armada Transformation Programme.
