SKT highlights impact of IPTV revenue growth as turnover rises 0.8% q-o-q in 3Q18

South Korea's SK Telecom (SKT) has published its financial results for the three months ended 30 September 2018, reporting that operating revenues were up 0.8% quarter-on-quarter on the back of 'SK Broadband's solid performance based on continued IPTV revenue growth'. In the three months under review, SKT generated consolidated revenues of KRW4.186 trillion (US$3.67 billion), up from KRW4.15 billion three months earlier, but down from KRW4.444 trillion in Q3 2017; the year-on-year decline was attributed in part to the company's adoption of the IFRS15 reporting standard from the start of 2018. Meanwhile, as a result of an increase in marketing costs and one-off costs, SKT reported a 12.3% quarter-on-quarter drop in operating income, while EBITDA was down from KRW1.15 billion in 2Q18 to KRW1.11 billion three months later. Net income in 3Q18 was up almost 15% to KRW1.05 trillion, when compared to KRW914.3 billion in the year-ago quarter.
