Lest We Forget

While I am certainly no expert on the mysteries of the human brain, any more than I understand how memory works, I cannot help but suspect that we are all prone to forget things that we simply do not want to remember; in particular, those things that would otherwise demand an uncomfortable or unacceptable response on our part.
