Pilkor Pursues Global Presence, Deploying High-Tech Passive Parts

Preferences these days focus on handheld mobile devices, so demand for passive components also is shifting rapidly from metallized film capacitors to chip-style components, and multiple-layer ceramic chip inductors. Such changes made the first quarter of FY2001 a particularly tough period for Asian companies like Pilkor Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea. This company still depends on traditional lines of metallized film capacitors for most of its sales. Pilkor does participate in fast-growing market segments for sophisticated passive components. It has a new line of multiple-layer ceramic chip inductors, multiple-layer chip capacitors, and chip resistors. However, such products still represent only a fraction of its output.
