SEEPI Commissions Consulting Agency To Determine Competitiveness of Philippine Electronics Industry

The Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI), the umbrella organization of foreign and local electronics manufacturers in the country, is working with the government to finalize an industry roadmap that seeks to increase Philippine electronics exports to $100 billion in 2008 from $22 billion in 2001. The organization has started working closely with concerned government agencies after getting the results of a study commissioned to identify the strong and weak points of the industry. "We want them to appreciate our concerns. We also hope that through our constant dialogue with government officials, they will realize the need for government to address some critical issues such as the need to improve the infrastructure," says Ernie Santiago, SEIPI Executive Director. He said SEIPI expects the industry to fully recover this year.
