In 2006, Broadcom Corp., Intel Corporation, LG Electronics Inc., Panasonic Corp., NEC Corp., Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., SiBEAM Inc., Sony Corp. and Toshiba Corp. have joined together to create the next-generation wireless interface specification for high-definition (HD) media streaming and transmission. The WirelessHD Consortium will facilitate technical advancement by creating a specification focused on fixed and portable devices. WirelessHD is the first consumer electronics and technology industry-supported, HD digital wireless interface for simplified media streaming and HD content portability. The WirelessHD Consortium, led by several leading technology and CE companies, servesrnto organize an industry-led standardization effort to define a next-generation wireless digital interface specification for consumer electronics and PC products.
