Enhancing AH-64 Training

As the aviation community continues to change the culture of aircraft maintenance, the 128th Aviation Brigade must remain at the forefront of modem and complex training. Opportunities for advanced individual training (AIT) students to broaden their perspective outside their individual MOSs during Initial Entry Training are few and with good reason. Aviation maintenance training is highly technical and the time each Soldier has to go from civilian to trained maintainer is short. When we are able to expand student horizons, however, the results are better prepared maintainers with a fuller view of what it takes to make the aviation community a lethal fighting force around the world. One such opportunity is the integration of 15R (AH-64 Attack Helicopter Repairer) and 15Y (AH-64 Armament / Electrical / Avionic Systems Repairer) training within the 128th Avn. Bde., particularly with regard to armament systems and FARP operations. Though a small aspect of what Apache maintainers learn, providing greater structure to this portion of training for our 15Rs will add great value to the Apache community's ability to fight.
