The ankle is one of the most frequently involved joints in sport-related pathology, including an heterogeneous group of pathological conditions, both traumatic and degenerative. Ligamentous lesions, especially the ones involving the lateral complex, are the most frequent and are often associated with osteochondral lesions of the talar dome. Tendineous pathology mainly include Achilles’ tendon lesions, which often occur on a degenerate tendon. A lot of cases of “painful ankle” depend on impingement syndromes, both osseous and synovial, and on coxa pedis pathology.
