Thomas Phifer, FAIA, has unveiled the final design for the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, N.Y., which will open late next year. Reducing the exterior to "its bare essence," as Phifer puts it, the final design replaces white aluminum with glass panels separated by thin joints. A sheet interlayer renders the glass pure white. The interior is divided into "porch" areas that allow for views out to the surrounding campus, and galleries, where the only light comes from skylights.
