Since 1968 the Film Archiv Austria has stored its valuable collection of film material in Laxenburg, south of Vienna, beside a Baroque former forester's house at the edge of the castle park. In 2004 a new depot for safety film designed by Michael Embacher was opened on this site, while the oldest 10 % of the existing material, including footage of Vienna by the Lu-miere brothers dating from 1895, continued to be stored in a concrete bunker from the early days that had to be air conditioned at considerable expense. In 2005 a start was made with designing a replacement building that would be larger and independent in energy terms.%Seit 1968 lagert das Film Archiv Austria seine wertvollen Filmbestände in Laxenburg südlich von Wien, beim barocken ehemaligen Forsthaus am Rand des Schlossparks. 2004 wurde auf dem Gelände das von Michael Embacher entworfene neue Depot für Sicherheitsfilme eröffnet, während die ältesten 10 % des Bestandes, darunter Aufnahmen der Brüder Lumiere von Wien aus dem Jahr 1895, noch immer in einem aufwendig zu klimatisierenden Betonbunker aus den Anfangszeiten verwahrt wurden.
