Contemporary artists take up the cultural codes of slapstick and translate them into their media of expression, into films, sculptures, installations and photographs. Originally a simple theatrical special effect, the term "slapstick" later developed to describe an entire genre. The Kunstmuseum shows works by Francis Alyes, John Bock, Rodney Graham, Wilfre-do Prieto, Timm Ulrichs, Fisch-li/Weiss, Bruce Nauman and others in combination with excerpts from silent films. The illustration shows Buster Kea-ton in the film "One Week" from 1920, which is about a prefab house.
