BUS:STOP, Krumbach, Vorarlberg - Seven architectural trifles

Seven little bus shelters designed by seven architects from all around the world make waiting for the regional bus in the Bregenzerwald community of Krumbach into a real experience. Idea from the regulars' table The idea of asking internationally well-known architects whether they might be interested in designing little bus shelters for the village of Krumbach (population 1000) in the Bregenzerwald region of Vorarlberg in western Austria arose in the atmosphere of discussions around a table in a local inn. Without thinking too much about the possible consequences a list of seven was drawn up and enquiries were sent off by email. The reply from Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto can just one hour later. "Wonderful. I'll take part". And when, within the space of a week, six other (positive) replies arrived the originators of this idea were almost in a state of shock. The association "kultur krumbach", which was responsible for the project known as BUS:STOP, could hardly believe that the architects found the idea so attractive that they were willing to accept a week's holiday in the lovely Bregenzerwald as the only "payment" for taking part in the project.
