Paul Schneider-Esleben in a Munich exhibition

A comprehensive and richly varied exhibition that commemorates the architect Paul Schneider-Esleben on the occasion of the 100th anniversa- ry of his birth is being shown not in the Rhineland, where he was a pioneer of post-war modernism, but instead in Munich, where his intellectual estate is kept. This is just the kind of exhibition one wishes to see in the Architecture Museum of the TU Munich - rich in material from the Museum's own collections, scientifically prepared, presented in a lively way but at the same time serious-minded. There is just a single point where one is forced to disagree with the museum. Paul Schneider-Esleben, who died in 2005 at the age of almost 90, has by no means "been almost completely forgotten". Since 1987, when Werner Durth and Niels Gutschow launched the campaigns for the preservation of masterpieces of German post-war modernism, Schneider-Esleben and his exceptional achievements have been recognised.
