Robotic sewing: the 2016 research pavilion of the ICD/ITKE in Stuttgart

For one and a half decades the collaboration between two institutes at the architecture faculty of Stuttgart University has been helping to advance research and teaching in ways that are relevant to the training of architects. It is above all through the unusual temporary research pavilions, developed and implemented by and with the students, that the ICD (Professor Achim Menges) and the ITKE (professor Jan Knippers) succeed in giving real life to the role of technology and science in the development of architecture and in stimulating young people's interest. Alongside architecture and civil engineering bionics and the analysis of natural phenomena are once more shown to augment this approach excellently.
