Large areas, low COStS It takes some time for your eyes to grow accustomed. Everywhere light hovers in a seemingly endless space, without corners and without shadows. A desert of salt crackles as you walk across it, a light-coloured ground that removes all smells. If you grasp the curving membrane above you the entire space is reshaped, giving you some idea just how delicate the skin between the still, bright world inside and the loud, multi-coloured world outside actually is. Espacio La Nube (cloud space) - the name of this architecture office defines their focus. For several years these young Spanish planners have been concentrating on the development of membrane structures, with each of their projects they extend the boundaries of what is possible with inflatables. Their first design, "La Nube", was realised in their native Madrid. The commission was for an administration area and sleeping facility for the EASA architecture conference (European Architecture Student Assembly). They responded to the challenge to provide a maximum floor area on a minimum budget using the tried and tested principle of inflatable architecture.
