'Noc Architektüry' - 'Night of Architecture' in Bratislava

It's a widely known fact that architecture students tend to be active at night - every year in Bratislava they invite the public to a late-night exhibition of all the work produced during the semester. When the sun sets behind the old town of Bratislava and the lights in the school of architecture building also light up into the large forecourt then it is time again for a "Night of Architecture". For more than five years architecture students from the Technical University of Bratislava have been organising this special show in the rooms of the school at the end of the semester. Projects from all areas of the faculty are shown. Visitors can look inside precisely detailed restoration models or use virtual reality headsets. The show offers first semester students as well as graduates an excellent opportunity to show their work to a broad public and in this way presents a perspective of the country's architecture scene of the future. For Elena Soltesova, one of the initiators of the event, making the coming generation of architects visible was one of the main reasons for setting up the "Noc Architektüry". Previously, students had not had an opportunity to present their work, a work show of this kind had not existed. Therefore in 2013 half a dozen students started the first "Night of Architecture", which successfully attracted more than 1000 visitors to the building of the architecture department. Initially, there were some doubts on the part of the teachers about whether the concept could succeed. These doubts were soon dispelled when it was recognised that the show gives students and also the entire faculty an opportunity to introduce themselves to a wider public.
