30 Architects in Istanbul

摘要

This issue highlights 30 architectural practices based in Istanbul and their work in this diverse and energetic metropolis. The environs of Istanbul-the districts surrounding the old city of mosques, palaces, and other historic monuments-are now the site of many renovations, conversions, and interventions into the cityscape. Within a radius of about 20 km, new office buildings and residential districts are appearing. Many housing projects are underway, including projects sponsored by the national government. On the Asian side, residences in traditional Turkish style can be seen along with modern mosques using glass. The works of the 30 practices introduced here offer a variety of perspectives on architecture and the city in tnis mixed environment of new and old.
