Interview: Producing Alternatives for Now and Beyond

Editor: Storefront certainly appears to be a starting point for many young emerging architects in the US, including interviewees for the issue. What is it like to work with them? Eva Franch (EF): We have done several projects with these architects. Jimenez and I met when he was teaching at Ohio State University and I was teaching at SUNY Buffalo. His energy and ability to produce uncanny forms was already evident, and he has become a distinct voice of our generation. In 2014, we commissioned Jimenez to do "Speechbuster in collaboration with artist Grayson Cox. Storefront is an institution and a space for exhibitions but more importantly is a space for collective engagement, discourse and debate; I asked him to make another Storefront, almost like a ghost, capable to produce the same space of engagement but in an itinerant manner as a nomadic structure that can host 99 people, and produce a playful ground to enact new ways of public debate and discourse.
