Nadir Afonso Contemporary Art Museum

The Nadir Afonso Foundation is located on the right bank of the Tamega River, in Chaves, an area covered by the Polis Program. The risk of an exceptional flood cannot be excluded. The solution found, with no other suitable place available in the urban zone, was to elevate the sole floor of the building by means of a series of structural blades perpendicular to the river. Direct access is guaranteed by a gently inclined ramp from a spot not subject to flooding. The two principal exhibition spaces is developed in parallel, one being illuminated by a continuous skylight and the other open to the river. The Foundation's program includes two workshops, one of which is waiting for a privileged presence: Nadir Afonso.
