A ground floor and basement renovation of a landmarked building in New York City's original art district of SoHo, this project required meticulous remastering of historic designs and engineering. In addition to designing an exhibition space for contemporary artists, it also includes a library, viewing room, art handling facilities, administrative offices, and kitchen. The gallery is an example of refined restoration efforts juxtaposed against innovative spatial solutions and contemporary interior design. The code required red color applied to the exposed pipes reveal the building's utilitarian nature, while the clean white walls provide optimum opportunities for art display. Likewise, the meticulously refinished original wood flooring grounds space but harmonize the cast iron Corinthian columns.
